It is believed that when a very big yagya was organized by Prajapati Daksha, but due to the insult of Lord Shiva, Mata Sati sacrificed her body in the same yagya and when Shiva was carrying the dead body of Mata Sati, then Lord Vishnu divided the body of Mata into many pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra, out of which two parts of Mata fell in Amarkantak, one of those two places is near the origin of Son River at Sonmudha and the other is the temple of Goddess Parvati Ji located near the origin of Mother Narmada. Amarkantak is surrounded by mountains and trees on all sides, where the mind gets mesmerized. The high hills, rivers and waterfalls here make people lovers of nature and it seems as if they should settle here in the lap of nature. The beautiful valley here attracts people's mind.
